This page is here to show you what you can expect from Alive Studios' vertical slide scanning system.

Showing you a great looking slide means nothing without a comparison to the alternative method. As our scanners are so powerful, I had to choose a fair competitor, so I went for a very high-spec, top-of-the-line Epson scanner to go up against it.

I chose the Epson Perfection V750 which is a brand new release at RRP £549.99.
Here is what Epson say about it:

"This is the ideal scanner for advanced amateur photographers and enthusiasts. Achieve exceptional quality film and photo scanning with Epson's unique Dual Lens System and professional colour management software."

So, we put the machines into battle, allowing the Epson to use it's Digital Ice facility to the max. Digital Ice, for those who don't know, is an amazing technology which gets rid of dust and scratches during the scan. Whilst great for fast, easy clean-ups, you cannot beat a human artist painstakingly touching up in Photoshop.
You will see from the scan examples, the Epson has indeed removed the dust and scratches, but in the process has softened the details dramatically.
The Alive Studios vertical scanner has retained all the sharpness, and the graphic artist has touched-out only the dust and scratches, leaving the rest of the detail in tact.

Apart from the image being sharper, you will note that the colours are richer and more vibrant on the Alive Studios vertical scanner. Blacks are blacker, and there is far more depth to the image.

When setting out to right this page, I initially thought I would go for the usual approach of showing both images in full, with a section of the photo enlarged to show you the difference between the two scans.
I really did not expect the difference to be so great that I didn't need to bother with a zoomed-in shot, as the overall comparison is so obvious it really jumps out at you.

Now, don't get me wrong - I love the Epson Perfection, we use it all the time in our office and I think it's a great piece of kit - I just know from my testing here today how much better the Alive Studios vertical scanner really is...

Epson Perfection V750 ...but don't take my word for it, why not send in a test slide for us to scan for you so you can compare it to your own attempts or that of other services on offer.

We will email the results to you straight away, it will cost you nothing and you are under no obligation. We'll see you soon!
